Members newsletter: July/August 2025

As I sit at my desk tapping keys, the Group’s Annual Exhibition has drawn to a close. Display boards etc all returned to the barn and tables to Conservative Club. Visitors commented on the quality and diversity of work in such a range of medium. This is most encouraging.

No doubt you would like to know result of Peoples Favourite Painting ….. of course you do!

On Tuesday 23rd September Group President Carole Massey will present trophy and prize to

Jo Jacobs for her mixed medium painting ‘Garden Gleanings’.

Joint runner ups were: Gillian Lait for her pastel painting ‘Barn Owl’

And Carole Massey for her acrylic painting ‘Summer Holidays’

Carole will present Gillian with a prize and as Chairman I will present Carole with her prize (of course!)

The Group’s Committee will be meeting late August to discuss any nips and tucks required for future exhibitions, in the meantime offer the following as Jim did end up needing to sort out 19 frames this year, the highest number yet despite including information in Exhibition Pack to help on framing and presenting work plus a list of suppliers.

    •  Eyelet fixings not accepted as tendency for work to tip forward changing its perspective
    •  Check cord tight as loose cording causes work to tip forward and again changes its perspective. (Tip – not sure work hangs ok then try on a wall at home, never fails!)
    • D rings – check screws sufficiently tight to keep fitting from moving and again causing loose cord
    •  Hang it fixings – check firm to avoid slippage (perhaps tape down to ensure firm)
    •  Picture wire not accepted – this does over time rot and break plus sharp ends causing injury.
  •  To those members hanging work therefore –
    • Please use picture cord (not household string) which is much stronger (and friendly to members hanging work!)
    • Tape ends of picture cord to one side rather than in the middle to ensure will fit on hook
    • Tape back of framed work using framers tape. Masking tape not accepted as this peels off.

We do hope the above helps to ensure work which you have spent time and effort painting, drawing etc. is always presented at its best anywhere you wish to exhibit, not just Felixstowe Art Group.

As with any group activity volunteers are essential to bring success. So thank you to all who gave their time in any way to make 2025 another year Group were able to hold the exhibition as without you it would not happen. Which brings me to say –

2025 was the last exhibition for Liz D’arville as Exhibition Administrator and myself as Exhibition Admin Assistant, as we are standing down from these roles which we have held for a number of years. We now need a little flexibility in time in order to help a family member whose partner has Lupus which is increasing in pain, discomfort and general wellbeing.

We will certainly continue to help on the set up and clear down days.

Liz is working on a file setting out information on the role. This is something she did when standing down as Membership Secretary and Agnes found very helpful. So we do need to fill these two vacancies officially at the AGM April 2026
